 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
To not get the wrong idea out. This here, to my understanding, Is a short movie, reimagination of Mortal Kombat. It's not a full length movie, but is looking to be sold to a big name company to make the movie.

 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
I like the Seven/Saw vibe they are going for but I think they should still keep the other dimension element. I mean, that is Mortal Kombat. Keep the same feel though.

Never did get around to seeing MKII but I still enjoy the first one .. and the soundtrack.
That portfolio, trial trailer .. what ever you call it was pretty good.

 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
A lot of people disliked Annihilation when compared to the original Kombat, and while they do kill off one of my favorite characters about 5 mins into the movie (I won't spoil who, for those of you who haven't seen it) I enjoyed it more than the first one, if only for the amount of characters jammed into it. Almost *everybody* in MK (who was invented to that point) is represented. Also, it makes Sub-Zero one of the good guys, and good ol' frosty has always been my favorite MK character.

 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
MK:A is an abomination of cinema. I've seen horrible movies. I love horrible movies. Many of them have a charm to them that major theatrical releases just never will. But MK:A? Absolutely worthless and despicable. They cram every MK character they could into it and get them all fucking wrong (yes, Sub-Zero is in it for about 30 seconds, as is Scorpion, but considering we just saw them in the first movie they weren't necessary), and even the fight scenes are horrible and bland.
I kinda like the idea that this conception trailer offers, of the characters being more realistic (turning Baraka into a serial killing neo-primal with spring-loaded blades up his sleeves is actually pretty damn creative), but that leaves out almost all of the inter-dimensional and supernatural elements of the story...which are imperative to the story itself. Why not just create something with similar characters and call them something else? Because the story presented in that conception trailer isn't Mortal Kombat.
That...and dammit, Johnny Cage shouldn't be dying so fucking quick!

 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
Yeah. The trailer to me comes off as guys who had a Seven/Saw style script lying around that they couldn't sell and then had the idea of altering it to insert a popular franchise. You could easily still do the same vibe but keep the inter-dimensional and supernatural elements.

 Re: The Mortal Kombat Reboot
When we look at it, it is obviously an "inspired from", so there's some elements they're going to take and some not. It's like that for almost everything they adapt for a movie since it could become too complicated and/or very tough to understand for the viewer who didn't play the games, or even the gamer himself. But turning the stories into something more "realistic" sometimes went well, like Nolan's Batman trilogy. I'll give this movie a chance, like the Trekkies gave a chance to the Star Trek movie. Oh and also, it is a teaser according to imdb.com And I agree, Cage dies like a little bitch. However, this is a portion of the movie, so maybe we'll see Cage a little longer than that fight. But at least, the fight was good.
