August 30th, 2009 - BoX Office #3 Posted August 22nd, 2009 - BoX Office #2 Posted August 17th, 2009 - BoX Office #1 Posted Welcome to another edition of the BoX Office. I am your narrator, author, and voice all in one... Joe BoXeR. This weekend we witnessed some great matches and interesting progression with the PWA. So without further ado, let's dive right in. A
Major Change Ahead
- Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a first for the PWA. We officially have a roster split in the PWA, and with the amount of talent on our roster, Chaos has been brought back to the PWA. And yes, yours truly is a semi-active wrestler on Chaos. Now that there are two brands in the PWA, there needed to be a general manager of each brand. The B.O.D removed Chamelion as manager of Rampage, but since Chamelion is the majority stockholder in the PWA, he took the position as overseer for Rampage and Chaos. So both GM's will have to answer to Chamelion. A good business move on his part. We don't have a GM for Rampage, yet, but I expect that position to be filled by the end of next weekend. However, the new General Manager of PWA Chaos is Tamika Nash Strader, daughter of former PWA World Champion Scott Nash Strader. However, it seemed the powers that be didn't think that would be enough, and they named a co-GM for PWA Chaos -- Jack Wheeler! #1 - Viktor Stone vs. Orion - Our opening match for Rampage was 'The Beast' taking on newcomer Orion. Orion is one of the newest members of the Pantheon and Matthew Engel's protege. After a grueling match, which had Matthew Engel interfering to help Orion get the advantage, Viktor Stone was able to overcome the odds set forth by the Pantheon and defeat Orion. Granted, this is only Orion's second match and his inexperience showed, however I see a lot of potential in Orion. Despite that, this was a blow to the Pantheon delivered by Viktor Stone himself. After the match, Engel and Stone got into it, and Engel and Orion began their beatdown on Stone. Riona Langly came down, wielding a steel chair, and slides into the ring. Orion pushes Engel out of the way of Riona's swing, and they escape the ring before Riona can do any damage. Ravyn Declares a Lightning Strike - Ravyn makes a debut on PWA Rampage and warns Chamelion that there is revenge coming for him. He spoke in rather cryptic tones, but he refereed to the people seeking vengeance as 'them', and almost declaring himself as just the messenger, but not the deliverer. We will see where this goes. #2 - Jethro Hayes vs. Sunshine Warrior - The second match of Rampage featured current PWA Intercontinental Champion taking on rising star Sunshine Warrior. This was a non-title match, and it started out to be a real battle. However, my brother decided to stick his nose in their business and hit Hayes with a lead pipe - twice. Sunshine and the referee had no idea what happened, and Sunshine scored the pinfall. After the match, Engel comes back out and sends a message to Jethro by hitting him with a lead pipe and putting him in a crucifix armbar. Engel severely injures Jethro, who has to go to the hospital. Backstage with Bubba J and Jethro Hayes - After Jethro versus Sunshine, we are backstage as the PWA Intercontinental Champion is being stretchered out to an ambulance. Bubba J, Hayes' long lost friend, comes to his aid and tells Jethro that he wants Engel's blood. Jethro begs him not to interfere and stoop to the Pantheon's level. Bubba argues back saying that fairness went out the window after what Engel did to Jethro. #3 - Alex Wilkie vs. Marxx - This match has Pantheon member, Alex Wilkie, taking on former World Champion Marxx. It was a good match until the end, when Wilkie blatantly disqualified himself by hitting Marxx with a steel chair. Marxx gets the DQ win, which he wasn't happy about, and Wilkie escapes the former World Champ's grasp without being pinned. #4 - Matt Stone (C) vs. Ryan Ross - Our fourth match of the evening is the Grizzly Beer Title match! Before the match started, Chamelion comes out and decides to shake things up a bit. After all, he's still the boss. He reveals the new and only stipulation for our GB title match. The loser of this match will be sent to the Chaos brand! Chamelion wants to keep the Grizzly Beer title on Rampage. The match starts and Matt Stone and Ryan Ross give it their all in an excellent match. However, in light of another twist, Stone hits Ross with a low blow! He disqualifies himself from the match and will be sent to Chaos. However, a PWA upstanding rule is that a title can't change hands on the account of a disqualification! So the Grizzly Beer Title goes to Chaos! I admit I enjoy Chamelion's plans being spoiled. #5 - The Pantheon (C) vs. Riona Langly & Emperor Ian - You know it's funny because I was just listening to PWA Radio... and Mr. Radio Rich decided to take my sarcasm a little too serious when I said a few weeks ago on the BoX Office that PWA Radio would be excited to see Riona Langly on the TV. Even though it was a playful comment, I stand by my statement because Rich wouldn't have even said anything about it if it wasn't true. You guys trash-talk Riona so much that I'm starting to think you like her. Anyway, this tag title match - our fifth match of the evening - was a great one! It took place inside the steel cage, and there was brutality in nearly every second of this match. We had blood flying, bodies crumbling, and hearts breaking. However, in a test of strength and will, Riona Langly and Emperor Ian regain the Tag Team titles and the Apostles, with the help of Emperor Ian, deliver ANOTHER blow to the Pantheon. Engel confronts Riona - Right after the tag title match, Engel confronts Riona to talk about what happened earlier in the night. Engel goes on to say that no matter what Riona does, the Pantheon will win. Riona displays her instability and tells us that Engel will enjoy his victory with mangled bodies around him. Scary stuff. It is then revealed that Orion is standing behind Ian and Riona, and Orion takes out Ian with a sledgehammer. Orion disappears before Riona notices, due to her state of mind right now, and Engel disappears from the scene as well. There was a note left on Ian to signify that Riona is next, and Riona was all the more merrier to welcome that. While I don't agree with Riona's intent, she is making progress in the war against the Pantheon. #6 - Matthew Engel (C) vs. Mark Zout - Now... we are at the main event of the evening as Matthew Engel defends his World Title against number one contender Mark Zout. Zout won this opportunity when he defeated Viktor Stone at Summer Sizzler. This match was an.. interesting one, to say the least. Mark Zout was so into hating the crowd, our head referee Lance Weston, and everyone around him that it seemed Engel was playing the role of the hero, something he hasn't done in quite some time. Let's be honest: when was the last time my little brother was liked by the PWA fans? I can't remember. But I think they enjoyed Engel defeating Zout with the Euthanasia. However, after the match, Bubba J came down to finish some business and he beat down Engel and Orion. Bubba J disappeared back into the crowd, and as Engel tries to recover from that, Riona comes out wielding a railroad spike and giving Engel a sign that he's done. This... this doesn't look good. While I am not on the side of the Pantheon, she might be taking this too far. And JUST when you think the show is over, Chamelion comes out to do some more of his boss stuff and reveals some upcoming matches for us. Next week, Engel will be taking on Bubba J in a non-title match. Also, he told us that Chaos needs to find a tag team to step into the challenger's spot against Riona Langly and Emperor Ian at Manitoba Mayhem! And finally - the main event for Manitoba Mayhem has been set. Matthew Engel, PWA World Champion, will be taking on Jethro Hayes, PWA Intercontinental Champion, and BOTH TITLES ARE ON THE LINE! This is a first in this incarnation of the PWA, folks, and Manitoba Mayhem is shaping up to be spectacular once again. The Review - With the roster split and the new, old, new brand of Chaos re-emerging, this was a shorter show than what we've been accustomed to. However, where Rampage lacked length, they added with power and suspense. This was another fine show that saw the tag titles change hand in the match of the night, in my opinion. We saw a lot of action between the Pantheon and the Apostles of Ares, and we've got some MAJOR matches coming up for Manitoba Mayhem! Great job to the staff and wrestlers on another exciting show. Now that everything has been revealed in terms of Rampage and Chaos, I have been asked by President Sommers to review Rampage exclusively! I had planned on doing two separate reviews for Rampage and Chaos, but it seems that Radio Rich will be writing a weekly review for Chaos. That should definitely be interesting, as I enjoy PWA Radio. So welcome aboard Radio Rich, and I look forward to your insight on PWA's Chaos. The Grade - 9 out of 10 (Great title matches and great action between matches. The overall flow and excitement of this Rampage was through the roof.) The Crystal Ball - Last week I said I would make some predictions for the Rampage card on September 5th. Well, here they are, but only for a few matches. I'm no fortune-teller! A new era of the PWA begins as Rampage, being its own brand with its own roster, will air live in Atlanta, Georgia inside the The Georgia Dome! Alex
Wilkie vs. Emperor Ian
Winner: This is going to be a great match. We have Pantheon member Alex Wilkie taking on one half of the PWA Tag Team Champions, Emperor Ian. I can see this match going down to the wire, but I'm going to give the edge to Alex Wilkie. I think Ian is a fine competitor, but Wilkie has the entire Pantheon in his corner and Ian has yet to choose a side. Hard Hittin' & High Flyin' vs. The Renegade Souljahs Winner: We are going to witness the debut of Giant Maxx and Justin Moreno taking on one of the better PWA tag-teams in Renegade Souljahs. Even though both members of the Souljahs failed to gain any gold last week on Rampage, look for them to take control of this match early and put the newcomers away. However, Giant Maxx and Justin Moreno won't keel over that quickly, and perhaps they may have a few surprises for our former Tag Team Champs. But, I predict Souljahs will be victorious. Matthew Engel vs. Bubba J Winner: A grudge match a week in the making, folks. Last week on Rampage, Bubba J settled a score for Jethro by attacking him and beating him down after Engel's successful title defense. This was, of course, retaliation for what Engel did to Hayes during Hayes' match. Engel is looking for his own retaliation against Bubba J for interfering in his business, and it's going to be a hell of a main event for Rampage - which is now competing directly with Chaos in a ratings war. Epilogue - Well there it is folks! This concludes my review for PWA Rampage. I'll be back next week to deliver you accurate and exceptional insight as the events of Rampage continue to unfold. We are getting closer and closer to Manitoba Mayhem, and from what I've heard, it's going to be a hell of a fight to get on the pay-per-view! The war between Rampage and Chaos begins this upcoming weekend! Take care, sports fans! |
Wrestler Spotlight 8/30/09 ![]() The "Celestial Trigger", Riona Langly, is featured in my wrestler spotlight this week. Just this past Rampage, Riona Langly reached greatness once again as she and Emperor Ian defeated the Pantheon A-Team inside a steel cage to capture the PWA Tag Titles for a second time. Riona continues to show her dominance in the ring in any kind of environment, and with these tag title reigns, she is one step closer to accomplishing the Grand Slam. The only thing that needs to be done is win the World Title, something that has evaded her since her debut in the PWA. But, it's really only a matter of time before the strap gets around her waist as she beats down men left and right that are twice her size and strength. You go ask your mentor about that day and when he stares at you with those vicious eyes, ask him 'Why So Serious?'." - Viktor Stone |
