August 22nd, 2009 - BoX Office #2 Posted August 17th, 2009 - BoX Office #1 Posted August 16th, 2009 - Site Launched Welcome to another edition of the BoX Office. I am your narrator, author, and voice all in one... Joe BoXeR. A lot of exciting action has occurred since the culmination of Summer Sizzler, the PWA's biggest summer event. We've got feuds coming to an end, feuds beginning, and feuds escalating to levels that could end somebody's career. Hopefully not mine. Let's get this started. A
Threat is Made!
- The opening segment to Rampage introduced us to an unknown competitor who claims to make quite the impact on the PWA. This figure talks abou a score needing to be settled, and his intentions appear quite malicious. Just when you think he's done, he reveals his first target to the camera: PWA owner and president, Chamelion. Well Mark... I definitely think he's 'got it'. Good luck with that, buddy. #1 - Matt Rodriguez vs. Scottie 'The Panther' Snow - Our opening match on Rampage features the debut of Matt Rodriguez squaring off against former World Champion Scottie Snow. Yes, you read that correctly. If you recall, Snow pinned Robinson at Genesis IX, but Robinson gained his World Title back from Snow minutes after the match. However, this match was a good one to start off the show, but Matt Rodriguez pulls off a clean victory in his debut win by defeating Scottie with the Revelations. The Beast & The Virus - Viktor Stone graces us with his presence as he comes down to the ring. He gets on the microphone and expresses to us his frustration about losing to Mark Zout and losing out on an opportunity to go after the World Title again. Unexpectedly, Matthew Engel comes out from backstage and comes down to the ring. He tells Vik that he won't be anywhere closer to the World Title than where he is now, and tells him to stop bitching on his show. Vik retaliates with anger, and Matt had enough at that point and went after the former IC Champion. The two battled in the ring until security broke them up. It seems that because Engel decided to stick his nose in Viktor's bitching session, now Viktor has painted a target on the back of the World Champion's head... perhaps a bigger target than what was there previously. #2 - Orion vs. Jacob Collins - The second match of Rampage featured the debut of Orion, Matthew Engel's protege and one of two new members of the Pantheon. Orion takes on Jacob Collins in a solid match that ended with Orion scoring the pinfall after he hit Collins with the Overture. Jethro's Challenge - This was definitely an interesting segment, and it would definitely spice things up later on in the show. Jethro Hayes comes down to the ring and addresses some of the things that Raizzor had said in his final promo going into Rampage. Jethro clears the issue about being compared to Sirus Moran saying 'Thanks, but no thanks'. Jethro's too humble to let people compare him to a PWA legend like Sirus Moran, however I can see what Raizzor is talking about. Jethro lets us know that he is issuing a challenge to the Pantheon and the challenge is this: any Pantheon member that faces Jethro and is defeated by Jethro, will lose his membership within the Pantheon and will never be allowed back into, or allowed to create anything similar. This is a hefty challenge, and we will await the answer. #3 - Duff Cote d'iVoire vs. Rhyno - The third match of the evening was a singles contest featuring Duff against Rhyno. It was a good back and forth battle, but Duff secured another win by making Rhyno tap out to a cobra clutch crossface submission. Odd Couple? - More Viktor Stone! I know, I'm excited too. However, Riona Langly also appeared in this segment and I know that got some of the boys at PWA Radio excited as well. This segment has Vik and Riona talking out their differences and coming to the conclusion that they have similar goals. Vik is invited by Riona to join the Apostles in their bloody quest to dethrone the Pantheon. Vik accepts, and now the Apostles have four members: Riona Langly, Johnny Maverick, Lacey Gloria, and Viktor Stone. #4 - Matt Stone vs. Xannon Alexander - Our fourth match was a non-title match featuring current Grizzly Beer Champion, Matt Stone, taking on newcomer Xannon Alexander. Xannon made his debut last week at Sizzler and was handed a loss by Duff Cote d'iVoire. However, Xannon made it known that he wasn't going to lose this week and after a tough match, Xannon pulled out the upset with a sunset flip pin and scored a win over the GB Champion. #5 - The Maverick Initiative vs. The Renegade Souljahs - Maybe these guys won't call themselves the Maverick Initiative anymore, but I will because that's a freakin' sweet name. Anyhow, this much-anticipated tag match started off well, but ended badly as the Pantheon interrupted the match and brutally attacked both members of each team. They disrupted what could have been a fantastic match, and sent a message to those against the Pantheon. Challenge Accepted, and a Change is Made! - We're now backstage as the Pantheon is all together to talk about Jethro's recent challenge. Nobody wants to do it, except Raizzor, who coincidentally (but not really) is fighting Jethro Hayes later on in the show. Raizzor accepts the terms for himself and himself only. Chamelion changes up his tag match later on in the evening into a Street Fight! I'm all for a little gore! #6 - Marxx vs. Aeolus Wrath - This match featured former World Champion Marxx taking on Aeolus Wrath. Marxx was able to score the pinfall after two Leaving Marxx's, and after the match Marxx gets taken out by Chamelion with the Sweet Sound of Success. Chamelion reveals his anger with Marxx, and tells us that he will be taking Marxx on at Manitoba Mayhem, the next PWA pay-per-view. Enter the Cowgirls From Hell - Finally, a woman tag team! We haven't seen this since the Razordolls, and I was getting rather bored with the tag team division being full of dudes. Well, Riona really doesn't count... after all, she has more balls than most of the guys in the locker room. The team of Meghan Nash Strader and Tamika Nash Strader are revealed as the Cowgirls From Hell. They issue a challenge to any tag team in the division to take them on next week on Rampage, the 29th, if they have what it takes. I can't wait for that match! #7 - Raizzor vs. Jethro Hayes - This was a highly anticipated singles match featuring the Soul-Taker against the Southern Hero. These two men are the biggest of the big, and they really went at it in this match. However, Raizzor proved his experience and defeated Jethro with the Tombstone Shoulder-breaker. And thus, Raizzor retained his membership within the Pantheon. And Jethro loses a week of pay... but I doubt that will affect him that much. Jethro might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he doesn't overspend. #8 - Matthew Engel vs. Shadow Starr - This match featured current World Champion, Matthew Engel, taking on Shadow Starr. This was a great match in my opinion, and we really saw a vicious side of Shadow Starr. However, Engel's experience and overall cockiness proved too much for Starr and Engel defeats Starr with the Euthanasia. A Message Sent, Part II - Hunter Sullivan is on the prowl again as we find him stalking former tag champion and current member of the Apostles of Ares, Johnny Maverick. Hunter takes the lead pipe to him and disables his arm. Riona rushed on the scene and Hunter fled, but the damage was done. Hunter's message was simple and yet insane: if you start something, you should finish it. He's basically begging for his own demise, and we'll see what unfolds in the coming weeks. #9- The Pantheon (Alex Wilkie & Chamelion) vs. Nature (Pohatu & Sunshine Warrior) - This was a brutal match between two teams of men that aren't very fond of each other. After some back and forth brutality, and absolute chaos, Pohatu landed a big-time frog splash on Chamelion and scored the pinfall. Sunshine aided with the assist by keeping Wilkie from interfering with Pohatu's finishing blow. After the match, Chamelion and Wilkie schemed to take out Nature, but Marxx arrived on the scene to assist Pohatu and Sunshine, and also to accept Chamelion's challenge for a match at Manitoba Mayhem. Riona Langly & Emperor Ian (C) vs. The Pantheon (The Phoenix & Hunter Sullivan) - Our final match of the night was a Tag Team Title match. Riona and Ian faced off against Phoenix and Hunter. There is no love lost between these four competitors, as Riona and her Apostles have continued the war against the Pantheon on their own front. After a great match, which might earn match of the night honors, The Pantheon takes more gold as The Phoenix scores a controversial pinfall over Emperor Ian. Some say he cheated, others say it was legit. I say he cheated, because Robinson is a businessman and in business, you do whatever it takes to make sure you're on top. The Pantheon takes the Tag Title gold as the show ends panned on an angry Riona Langly. The Review - I mean.. come on! What a way to kick things off after Summer Sizzler. This was a great show that saw the beginning of new feuds and alliances, and the ending of some. There is so much energy in the air at these PWA shows that almost every week you feel you're at pay-per-view. Great job to everyone, the staff and the wrestlers, for an amazing show. The Grade - 8.9 out of 10 (would have been a 9 if Cowgirls From Hell actually wrestled) The Crystal Ball - Last week I said I would make some predictions for the Rampage card on August 29th. Well, here they are, but only for a few matches. I'm no fortune-teller! Rampage will air live from the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans and it is shaping up to be another amazing night! The
Pantheon (C) vs. Riona Langly & Emperor Ian -- PWA Tag Team Title
Match
Winner: Last week we saw the same match, but Riona and Ian were champs. Now, it's flipped, and Riona and Ian are out for revenge. I call Riona scoring the pin for their team and returning the titles. Why? 'Cause I don't think Rob and Hunter have the chemistry to perform a miracle again like they did last week. Matt Stone (C) vs. Ryan Ross -- PWA Grizzly Beer Title Match Winner: Ross! I see a lot of potential in this young man, but he really needs to check his ego a tad so he can prepare himself fully for Stone. Stone didn't look too impressive this past week by losing to Xannon, but perhaps he'll learn from his mistakes and defend his championship. Matthew Engel (C) vs. Mark Zout Winner: No matter what, it's going to seem like I'm playing favorites if I predict or don't predict the outcome of this World Title match. With Matt being my brother and all, bias will always come into play. I think this match is going to be match of the night, and I think Zout will bring more than what Engel anticipates to the ring. Now, will that be too much for our World Champion, or can Engel fully prepare for Zout and successfully defend a PWA title, something he hasn't managed to do yet? I leave this prediction to the fans. Epilogue - Well there it is folks! This concludes my review for PWA Rampage. I'll be back next week to deliver you accurate and exceptional insight as the events of Rampage continue to unfold. The PWA now makes its march into Manitoba Mayhem, a staple pay-per-view in PWA history. I've heard rumors that the main event is going to be a spectacular one, and I can't wait! Take care, sports fans! |
Wrestler Spotlight 8/22/09 ![]() Craig Harvey, better known as Pohatu, is featured in my Wrestler Spotlight edition this week. Pohatu is our current PWA Television Champion and captured the title for a second time when he defeated Chamelion and Sunshine Warrior at Summer Sizzler. Even though the TV Title doesn't carry the same stipulations as it used to, when it had the 'three successful defenses earns you a World Title shot' rule, Pohatu has made it clear to everyone that he intends to be the best TV Champion there is, and use that as a means to make his way to the top. Pohatu has had a turbulent career in the PWA, but I believe he has really found his stride, even when he took current World Champion Matthew Engel to his limits in a singles match on Rampage. I look forward to seeing this kid shine brighter and brighter in the coming months. Tune of the Moment: Rhinocerous - Smashing Pumpkins Quote of the Moment: "But you go ahead and give it your all this weekend. I was hoping for just a solid singles match, no more, no less, but you've made this more than it has to be. You've put your 'ego', or whatever you want to call that, on the line, and I am going to fucking destroy it." - Matthew Engel |
