Welcome
to The BoX Office. You have stumbled upon something that truly does not
matter, but I am being paid to do it anyway. While the payments may be
small in comparison to most 'columnists', I am happy to be apart of the
PWA community once again. I am Joe BoXeR, former PWA Commissioner, and
you are now entering my mind as it pertains to the PWA. Feel blessed!
This is my first edition of the BoX Office, and I am going to start
this blog off the right way by going over what happened at Summer
Sizzler, one of the PWA's hottest summer pay-per-views. Let's start at
the bottom and make our way to the top.
Chamelion's
Promise
- Chamelion goes live backstage to tell us all that the Pantheon, one of the most hated groups in the PWA, will claim the World Title and keep the rest of them in its arsenal. He goes on to talk about his opponents for the evening, Pohatu and Sunshine Warrior. He tells us that some of our champions would be no where without the Pantheon, something I whole-heartedly disagree with. And then he ends it with the coveted "GOT IT!?" Yes, Mark, for the millionth time... we 'got it.' Duff vs Xannon Alexander - A basic singles match between Duff Cote d'iVoire and newcomer Xannon Alexander. A good match overall, but Duff scores the pinfall after he hits Xannon with the Master of Puppets. Jethro's Winning Attitude - We are backstage again to find Bud Adams approaching former World Champion Jethro Hayes about his match with Hunter Sullivan. Jethro goes into detail about his distaste for the Pantheon and how he hopes to take the venom out of Hunter Sullivan and capture the IC title. And despite the fact that I don't get why Jethro calls Hunter 'Mr. Of', I still love the guy because the way he interacts with the fans and wrestles reminds me a little bit of myself. Ryan Ross vs Rhyno - Our second match of the evening has former PWA Tag Team Champion Ryan Ross going against newcomer Rhyno with the winning earning number one contendership to the Grizzly Beer title. Despite Ross' tactic with the red mist, he scores the pinfall over Rhyno in a rather short match to put him in line for a chance at the PWA's Grizzly Beer Title. Clash of the Titans - Again we are backstage to find Jethro Hayes and Matthew Engel in some pretty heated conversation. Security is close by, and Jethro and my brother exchange words about the Pantheon and tonight's matches. Jethro reveals to Matt, and also to us, that he will be ringside during the World Title match. Sunshine's Swimsuit Competition - He won his own swimsuit contest. Enough said. Mark Zout vs Viktor Stone - Our third match has former PWA Tag Team Champion Mark Zout and former PWA Intercontinental Champion Viktor Stone going at it for the chance at the ultimate prize: the World Title. The winner would be named the number one contender. After a brutal back and forth match, Mark Zout was able to finish off Viktor Stone with the Pacific Plunge and earn his shot at the World Champion on August 29th. Chamelion (C) vs Pohatu vs Sunshine Warrior - The fourth match of the evening was the much anticipated PWA Television Title match. The champion, PWA Hall of Famer Chamelion, faced former PWA TV Champion Pohatu and Sunshine Warrior in a triple threat match. After a long and brutal match, which almost earned itself match of the night, Pohatu was able to dethrone Chamelion with the Thunderous Headache and capture the TV Title for a second time. New Membership - Right after the TV Title match, Chamelion was surrounded by Pohatu and Sunshine and Chamelion had no where to go. Alex Wilkie made his return by running off Pohatu and Sunshine, and revealed to the world that he was the newest member of the Pantheon. The Maverick Initiative (C) vs Riona Langly & Emperor Ian - On August 8th, the Pantheon ordered one of its members, Hunter Sullivan, to take out Jacob Figgins, who was one half of the Tag Team Champions with Johnny Maverick. Hunter did so, and Johnny was forced to pick a new partner to hold the belt. He picked his brother, Gary Maverick, and they formed the Maverick Initiative. They faced the unlikely duo of Riona and Ian in a tag team title match. After a great match, Riona nailed Gary with the Devolution and captured the PWA Tag Titles for her team. The Perfect Match - We now get Bud Adams interviewing Hunter Sullivan and talking about the PWA Tag Titles, the Figgins situation, and much more. Hunter confirms that him and The Phoenix are ready to dominate the Tag Division and claim the Tag Titles. He also tells us that he is searching for the perfect match, and perhaps Figgins is that perfect match. I anticipate a big comeback from Figgins and he will be looking to avenge what Hunter did to him. Matt Stone (C) vs Aeolus Wrath - Our sixth match of the evening is the PWA Grizzly Beer title bout between champion Matt Stone and number one contender Aeolus Wrath. Wrath earned his shot by eliminating Matt Stone during the Rumble. Stone deemed the match a submission match, and he retained his title by making Aeolus tap out from a devastating sharpshooter. A New Face in the PWA - We see the arrival of newcomer "The Show" Chad Kurtis. He hopes to make an impact in the PWA and seems to have an interest of going after Hunter Sullivan. Hunter Sullivan (C) vs Jethro Hayes - Our seventh match of the night is the PWA Intercontinental Title bout. Jethro Hayes won this opportunity by eliminating Hunter from the Rumble in July. After a great match that should have been match of the night, Jethro hits The Plow on Hunter Sullivan and wins his fourth major PWA title. The Phoenix (C) vs Shadow Starr - The GWA Global Champion, The Phoenix, puts his title on the line against Shadow Starr. This was an amazing match between these two stars, until the Pantheon had to get involved and saved The Phoenix from losing his precious Global Title. The Phoenix retains with The Flame and the pinfall. A Message Delivered - Backstage, Hunter Sullivan gets attacked by Riona Langly and Lacey Gloria. They beat him up fairly good, as he deserves it. Riona expresses that this attack is in retaliation for what Hunter did to Figgins, but before they could do real damage, The Phoenix shows up on the scene and runs out Riona and Lacey. Marxx (C) vs Scott Nash Strader, with the winner facing Matthew Engel - This is the final match of the night and it is for the PWA World Championship. The match was set up to be gauntlet-style. The first part was Marxx going off against Scott Nash Strader. It was a great match down to the end, but Scott tried to lay down for Marxx. Chamelion interrupted this and nailed the Sweet Sound of Success on Marxx and Scott. Jethro, who had been at the commentator's table the whole match, ran Chamelion out of the ring and checked on the two competitors. Marxx finished the job and nailed Scott with the Leaving Marxx to retain his championship for now. Matthew Engel came down to the ring and had some words with Jethro, and then the bell rang. Despite Marxx's exhaustion, he was able to give Engel a run for his money. Engel, proving to be too fresh and too dominate, finished off Marxx with the Euthanasia and captured his second PWA World Title. Jethro went to congratulate Matt, but Matt turned his back and celebrated with his Pantheon friends. Jethro gave us the last words 'I'll be seeing you' and the show was over. The Review - Overall, this was a great show that saw a lot of storylines progress and a lot of great matches unfold. Almost all of the titles changed hands, with the exception of the Grizzly Beer title. Great job to all the staff and wrestlers for making this a great show to end the summer. The Grade - 9 out of 10 Epilogue - Well, there you have it. This is my official review of Summer Sizzler, and I'm sticking to it. Check back for my next installment sometime next week, where I will review all the action from Rampage on August 22nd, and I might even do some predictions for the Rampage on August 29th. There are two set matches for August 29th: Matt Stone versus Ryan Ross in a Grizzly Beer Title match, and Matthew Engel will defend his World Title against Mark Zout. Wrestler Spotlight 8/17/09 ![]() Yes... quite possibly the ugliest face in wrestling, Jethro Hayes has risen from southern hick to PWA hero and superstar in less than a year. He has proved himself to be a fierce and charismatic competitor, always fighting for the less fortunate and for the greater good. Jethro took it one step further when he dethroned Pantheon member and rising star Hunter Sullivan in a great match to become the PWA's Intercontinental Champion. Jethro slam-dunked his way into PWA history by becoming a Grand Slam Champion when he captured his fourth major PWA title and fifth overall.
