/ Basic Information /

Real Name: Matthew James Engel

Ring Name(s):
Virus; Matthew Engel

Born:
December 25th, 1977; Oxford, Ohio

Residence:
Bailey's Bay, Bermuda
/ In The Ring /

Alignment: Heel
Introduction Music: "Sympathy for the Devil" performed by Guns N' Roses
End Music: N/A

Fighting Style: Matthew has varied throughout his years of wrestling in different styles, from hardcore to high flyer. He's tried them all, and sticks with a few. Matt loves to fly through the air, since he has great speed and agility. He also has an affinity for brawling and mat-wrestling. Those are the kinds of styles you'll see him portraying the most, and those are what he's most comfortable with.

Gear:
Matt will come down to the ring in a basic tuxedo that was given to him by Psychoduck and The Eternally Damned -- former allies of the Engel family. Both the jacket and the pants are a green that's a shade or two darker than Forest Green. He wears a silk black dress shirt underneath tucked into his pants, which extend down to the bottom of his wrestling boots that look like shoes since they're covered from the pants. He also wears a black tie. Now, when he gets to the ring, he takes off his jacket, silk shirt, and tie to reveal a plain white wife-beater shirt

/ Appearance /

Stands: 6'0"
Weighs: 211 lbs
Handed: Right

Head: He sports dark chocolate colored hair, which tends to be slicked back with either some quick hair gel or moose. His hair has gotten longer these days, down past his ears to the middle of his neck. He wears a gold earring in his left ear. He has a thick goatee, which matches the color of his hair. His eyes vary, changing from hazel to green to brown. Yeah, he's one of those people. Due to some very brutal matches in his course in the PWA, Matt has a few scars on his forehead, and a noticeably diagonal scar on his left cheek from his match with Riona at Chaotic Rampage.

Body: His body is very toned. He isn't big, but he's cut. He has impeccible definition in his chest, abs, and back. He has only one tattoo which is located between his shoulder blades. It's his favorite band's (Dream Theater) symbol.

Arms: He has long arms for his height and they're well-toned. He has a four inch scar on his wrist and some freckles amongst his forearms. He has a mole on his left shoulder, more toward his tricep.

Legs: The strongest part of his body. He has enormously muscular legs, but they are not out of proportion with the rest of his body. He uses his legs any way he can in his matches, whether it's for jumping or submission.

Trademark Moves:

1) High Voltage

2) 150%

3) T.K.T (TRUSTKILLTRUST)

4) Blood & Vengeance '77

Description of Moves:

1)

High Voltage is a moonsault double foot stomp that can be performed as a springboard off the middle or top rope or as a delayed moved from the top turnbuckle.

2) Essentially, the 150% is a rope-assisted double-arm implant DDT. Engel performed this on Phoenix at Genesis X and has said he will incorporate it into his moveset. He lifts an opponent stomach-first onto the top rope, laying them across the rope with their feet dangling out of the ring and their head inside the ring. He underhooks both his opponents arms in a front facelock and executes an double-arm implant DDT.

3) With his opponent in a Tree of Woe in one corner, Engel runs to the opposite corner and gets onto the top rope, facing the ring. He leaps off with a somersault, landing on his feet in the center of the ring, and then charges, delivering a shoulder thrust to his opponent's prone midsection.

4) With his opponent down on the mat, facing the sky, Virus will perform a number of flips around their body, and then hit the ropes to his opponent's head. Engel passes their body once, rebounding off of the opposite set of ropes, and then delivers a somersault senton parallel to the way his opponent's body is laid out, landing on their entire torso.

Finishing Moves:

1) Sons of Plunder (SECONDARY)

2) Images & Words (LAST RESORT)

3) Euthanasia (MAIN FINISHER)

Description of Moves:

1) Matt lifts his opponent over his shoulder, holding onto their legs with one arm as he wraps his other arm around his opponent's head (similar to that of Nova's Kryptonite Krunch, or Finlay's Celtic Cross). In a split second, Engel throws his opponent's legs off of his shoulder and spins them around, he himself spinning to the side and falling to the mat, driving his opponent face-first to the mat.

2) With his opponent groggy, Virus gets him to his feet and gets behind him. Virus is now standing in a back-to-back position to his opponent and reaches back to pull their head over his shoulder. While keeping a hold of his opponent's head, he spins around to twist their head over and Virus drops down to one knee forcing them face-first into Virus' knee in one quick, fluid motion.

3) With his opponent on the mat, Engel rises to the top rope, his back to the ring. He then jumps off, corkscrewing his body around while somersaulting, and lands with a body splash across his opponent's mid-section.

Greatest Matches (in sequential order):

I. Matthew Engel vs. Psychoduck (C) vs. Dusty
    - UHWA Power - Main Event; UHWA King of the Gimmick Title Match, Steel Cage -- October 9th, 2002
    - Winner: After a brutal match between the three competitors, the heated rivals Engel and Psychoduck both landed on the outside at the same time, causing a draw for them and a loss to Dusty.

II. Matthew Engel & Ryan McCade vs. Instruments of Destruction vs. The Brothers Grimm (C)

    - AOWF 4: Finale, Day 4 - Main Event; AOWF Tag-Team Title Match -- January 7th, 2003
    - Winner: Engel/McCade score the pinfall with Engel's Cash Splash (an earlier and simpler version of the Euthanasia) on Sirus Moran.

III. Matthew Engel vs. Ray Stanford
    - Fall From Grace 7: Full Collapse; AOWF King of Extreme Title Tournament, Finals -- March 21st, 2003
    - Winner: After a hellacious match, Matthew Engel scores the tap-out from Ray Stanford after applying a variation of the million dollar dream choke, and etched his name in AOWF history as one of the few community double champions (AOWF Tag Champion, AOWF King of Extreme Champion).

IV. Matthew Engel vs. Tommy Riley
    - AJWF Vengeance - Main Event; Special Guest Referee: Thunderwolf; Grudge Match - April 16th, 2003
    - Winner: Matthew Engel debuts the infamous Euthanasia and scores the pinfall over Tommy Riley, an AOWF legend
.

V. Matthew Engel vs. Trevor "Vicious" Knight
    - Revolutions Per Minute 2008, Day 3; Grudge Match; No Disqualification -- April 20th, 2008
    - Winner: Matthew Engel scores the pinfall over the MoA prodigy after a brutal and bloody match that started in the ring but ended up backstage.

VI. Matthew Engel vs. Chamelion (C)
    - PWA Chaos - Main Event; PWA World Title Match -- October 3rd, 2008
    - Winner: Matthew Engel defeats the PWA Hall-of-Famer, Chamelion, with the Euthanasia to win his second World Championship.

VII. Matthew Engel vs. Scott Nash Strader
    - Unsanctioned 2009 - Main Event; Taped-Fist Last Man Standing Match -- January 16th, 2009
    - Winner: Matthew Engel scores the pinfall with the Euthanasia from 30-plus feet, ending a brutal feud (for now) between him and SNS, and ultimately sealing his temporary retirement from wrestling.

VIII. Matthew Engel vs. Jethro Hayes (C)
    - PWA's Bad Blood - Main Event #1; PWA World Title Texas Death Match -- October 25th, 2009
    - Winner: This match is arguably one of Engel's most brutal and intenese title matches in his entire career. He took on Jethro Hayes for the World Title once again after losing to Hayes at Manitoba Mayhem. Engel would redeem himself, but at a very high cost, and capture the World Title in front of thousands of people once again. This match also marks Matthew Engel as a three time PWA World Champion, and a four time World Champion overall. It took two Euthanasias, one through the announcer's table, choking Hayes out with a chain, a pinfall, and a ten count to keep Hayes down. Both men were stretchered out after the match, and both men would never be the same again. This match was supposed to end this rivalry between Hayes (good) and Engel (evil), but rumors speculate that it's only been put on the backburner for now.

IX. Second 2 None (C) vs. The Order of Chaos
    - Who's The Man?! 2010; PWA World Tag-Team Match -- March 28th, 2010
    - Winner: Matthew Engel and Jethro Hayes joined forces at Genesis X to create Second 2 None, one of the most dominate tag teams so far in 2010. Despite the fact that S2N is currently no more, they were a force to be reckoned with, collecting 5 wins and no losses. One of those wins was at Who's The Man?!, when they defended their tag titles successfully against 2009 Tag Team of the Year, and technically undefeated, The Order of Chaos. It was a very brutal match, as all four men were battered and bloodied. However, Engel and Hayes would prove to be too much for the father-son duo, and they would ultimately win in powerful fashion with Jethro taking Masakazu out with the Trident and Engel crashing down on Kalis with the Euthanasia. This is arguably one of Engel's best tag team matches.

X. Matthew Engel vs. Jethro Hayes
    - Revolutions Per Minute 2: Overdrive; Scenes From a Memory Match -- April 25th, 2010
    - Winner: Draw. With special guest Riona Langly and special enforcers Simon Kalis and Corey Lazarus, the odds at the time were certainly stacked against Matthew Engel in what was billed as the most important match of either man's careers. The match stipulated Ironman rules, with a 60 minute time limit and no disqualification. The loser would be forced into retirement. The match was hellacious; anything you think could happen, it did. From Febreeze containers to Kitty Nunchucks, both men used their entire arsenal to bring the other down. At first, the ruling was Jethro Hayes getting a pin at the buzzer, scoring his 5th fall to Engel's 4 falls. It would seem that Engel's career was over, and RPM 2 would end on that note. However, in legal matters, Engel fought back and sued Pioneer Wrestling, winning his case and having his contract reinstated and the match going down in the record books as a draw. It was proven that Riona's arm hit the mat for a third time only a half a second after the buzzer went off, discounting Jethro's fifth fall on Matthew Engel. But questions were raised. Their rivalry stands at two wins, two losses, and one draw for each man and people have been wanting to see a sixth match to see who is truly better between the two, whose rivalry has shook the very foundation of the PWA since the summer of 2009.

XI. Matthew Engel vs. Jethro Hayes vs. Lucious Starr vs. Marxx
    - Who's The Man?!; WTM Tournament Finals/PWA World Heavyweight Championship Match; Special Guest Referee: Simon Kalis -- March 27th, 2011
    - Winner: Matthew Engel. What went from a series of three matches to determine the Franchise of 2011 and the next PWA World Champion to a fatal four-way elimination match turned out to be a historical mark in Engel's long and storied career. He would overcome three other individuals, eliminating two out of three, to capture his fourth World Championship in the PWA and win the Who's The Man?! tournament for the very first time. Simon Kalis was made the special guest referee and for all intents and purposes, he kept the match relatively fair. After Engel eliminated Marxx and Starr eliminated Hayes, the two battled it out despite Starr suffering from injury earlier in the night by Raizzor. Starr would kick out of the Sons of Plunder and the Euthanasia. Finally Engel latched on his million dollar dream choke and forced Starr to tap out.
